We want to make a bilingual BarCamp. Since we probably won't have the technical means to have large-scale simultaneous translation, we plan on doing it with a team of voluntary people to make what I would call "WhisperTranslation". We also plan to do TextualTranslation with on-screen projectors and a CollaborativeEditor like Gobby or SynchroEdit.
Then there is also the big problem of WikiTranslation that will have to be looked upon.
What is WhisperTranslation?
WhisperTranslation works by regrouping the people requiring translation for a session in a small group, with a translator in the middle. As the session goes, the translator translates to the others by whispering to them.
What is TextualTranslation?
TextualTranslation needs a projector, a computer and a writer. The idea is that the writer writes in the language opposed to what the speaker is using so that more people can understand by reading the screen. This can also help people with hearing problems. Since it requires a bit of hardware, it is more complicated than WhisperTranslation.
Who will do that stuff??
You guessed that we will require a good few translators that will be able to do translation to and fro english/french. Please write down your name here, if you're interested. We assume here that you will do translation from english to french, please note other possibilities alongside your name. For translations from french, see the Bilingue page.
